Theft at ancient temple leaves minority community miffed | Police accused of slackness | | M S NAZKI
Mendhar, Dec 5 : Burglars broke into the historic Hanuman Temple in Mendhar town and decamped with donation box containing cash worth over Rs 50,000 last night. Interestingly, this theft has taken place in the religious place despite the fact that four Policemen have been deployed for the protection/security of the temple by the local administration. There is strong resentment among the minority community members of the area over the theft. In the morning, the Mahant of the temple and people came to know about the matter. The police were also informed. The SHO Sadaqat Qureshi visited the site and later they recovered broken donation box from the nallah, just behind the temple. The thieves had broken the main door of the temple to enter and then decamped with steel donation box which had been fixed there. SD Sabha president Satish Sharma expressing strong resentment demanded that action against the police men deployed and theft case be worked out. He alleged that some insiders are involved in the theft. SHO Mendhar when contacted said that no FIR has been registered in this connection either by the Mahant or the Temple Committee members. Qureshi said some locals along with a Sarpanch claimed that they will work out the case as it was internal matter. He said three cops had been deployed on the election duty and only one was there at night. Devinder Tandon Sarpanch who also heads Mandir Committee claimed that a purse and SIM Card has been recovered from the spot and handed over to police. He dismissed SHO's claim and said that despite their request SHO lifted three cops deployed at Temple for election duty. Only one SPO was doing day and night duty which is unjustified. |
