Shubam's century, Ian's 70 help J&K take lead | J&K comfortably placed against Mumbai in Ranji | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 8: Brilliant century from young Shubam Khajuria and 70 runs knock from Ian Dev Singh today powered J&K to a slight 18 runs first innings lead in the ongoing Ranji Trophy Group-A match at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. The lead surely have been on higher side had J&K not made a meek surrender losing remaining five wickets for just one run. Heading comfortably towards a big lead with 253 runs on board for six wickets, J&K virtually surrendered the wickets in the shape of Hardeep Singh (06), Obaid Haroon (08), Samiullah Beigh (0), Waseem Raza (0) and Umar Nazir (1) thus halted the innings at 254 in 87.3 overs. Notwithstanding the poor show by tale-enders, J&K stopped Mumbai from taking away the match with latter already four wickets down for 66 runs in their second innings when day-two play ended. Speedsters, Ram Dayal and Umar Nazir shared the four wickets between them. Earlier, Shubam Khajuria and Bandeep Singh resumed J&K innings from overnight score of 88 for one and could resist the bowlers. Bandeep lost his wicket for 36 runs. Ian Dev Singh then joined Shubam and both batted brilliantly to add 99 runs for the fourth wicket partnership thereby bringing the total to 204 runs in 65.2 overs. Shubam lost his wicket while initiating a risky single soon after completing his century (107 runs off 299 balls, 12x4, 3x6) while Ian Dev Singh contributed 77 runs with the help of 10 boundaries. |
