JAMMU, Dec 8: The indifferent attitude of state government could be well gauged from a fact that it has failed to reply to the queries raised by Union government on the proposal, sent by the latter in 2012, for granting one time assistance of Rs. 15 Lakh per family of West Pakistani Refugees.
Surprisingly, instead of replying to the queries raised by Union government over the proposal sent in 2012, the state government in recent past forwarded another proposal in 2014 to Union government, proposing payment of Rs. 25 Lakh per family as one time settlement in favour of 5764 families of West Pakistani refugees.
According to the documents of Ministry of Home Affairs, it has maintained that in the year 2012, a proposal was forwarded by J&K government to Union Govt, recommending grant of one time assistance @ Rs. 15 lakhs per family as relief assistance.
Moreover, in the same year, Saif-ud-Din Soz had also met UPA chairperson, Sonia Gandhi and had submitted a memorandum, appealing for grant of package for one time assistance of Rs. 15 Lakh per family.
The documents further read, "J&K government has recommended grant of one time assistance @ Rs. 15 lakhs per family as one time settlement of WPR families. In order to examine the feasibility of extending rehabilitation assistances to these refugees, this Ministry had requested J&K government to provide certain information relating to the WPR settled in the state. However, the state government has not provided the complete information so far".
The documents further revealed that the State government has again been requested to provide the information and have been informed that the Ministry should consider the package for West Pakistani Refugees of 1947 separately as soon as it is received in this Ministry. "The queries raised in 2012 are yet to be responded by state government, while the state government in a new turn forwarded another proposal recommending Rs. 25 Lakh per family to refugees, which is only a trick to lure refugees", a refugee leader said.
