jaipur, Dec 8: Former Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh, who had recently met BJP leaders and praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, today sought to dismiss speculations that he has joined BJP or received an invite in this regard.
"I have not taken BJP membership, neither received any invite to join it nor waiting for it," Singh, who is on a personal visit to Jaipur, told reporters at Pink City Press Club here.
He said he is not affiliated to any party and would not hold any (political) post or portfolio for next 10 years.
"I am living free. It would be foolish to aim and anticipate any post," he added.
Singh said he found no shortcomings in Modi-led BJP government and its functioning until now.
"Inflation has been contained ever since Modi government came to power, prices of fuel and other goods have been reduced, Clean India campaign, high polling percentage in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly polls, Modi's speech over black money in Australia. It all shows the country is witnessing a big change," Singh said.
Denouncing Congress's allegations against Modi government over black money issue, Singh said, "Opposition members are crying foul and making allegations pertaining BJP's promises to bring back black money to the country. Criticism for the sake of criticism is not good."
Singh further defended the delay in Modi government's attempt to expose black money holders, saying, "It takes nine months for a child to be born after conception. Why is there so much hurry?"
On BJP's claim that Tajmahal was part of an ancient temple, Singh said, "Tajmahal is India's pride, don't drag it in any dispute. This is a heritage monument of historical importance, and identity of the country in the world."
On External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj's proposal to have Bhagwat Gita declared as national scripture, the former Samajwadi Party leader said, "Let Quran, Bible also be declared the national scriptures."
Asked about Opposition protesting BJP Minister Nirajan Jyoti's remarks, Singh said, "I am not praising such remark, but Prime Minister himself has condemned it. Why the Opposition members did not protest Saharanpur Congress candidate Imran Masood's remarks against BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate."
On his relations with Samajawadi Party, Singh said he was disappointed because Uttar Pradesh's reins were handed over to "immature hands" of Akhilesh Yadav.
On controversial allotment of land in Noida during the previous Samajwadi Party regime, Singh said he submitted relevant information and papers to SIT recently, and he was assured that an impartial probe would be conducted in to the scam.
Singh said he would happily accept any punishment if it is proved that he was involved in the scam.
Speaking about black money deposits in foreign banks, Singh said if the government wanted to check black money then its flow from India through Hawala must be contained.
"Black money originates within India. The origin of all corruptions is Hawala money. It is converted into black money and deposited in foreign banks," he said.
On non-BJP parties joining hands for a "third front" formation recently, he said, "Barring Congress party everyone had enjoyed BJP's blessing on one or other occasion. Look at Nitish Kumar. Even Left parties supported former Prime Minister VP Singh once. Talks of secularism and communalism by these parties in present situation is not right."
