MENDHAR, Dec 8: Amid a ceasefire violation by Pak army, a major infiltration bid was tonight foiled by troops from across the LoC in Balakote sub-sector of Poonch. It was at about 8 pm when Pak resorted to unprovoked firing, targeting Indian positions in Dahdot Nullah area and in Panjani forests. India retaliated. While the exchange of fire between the two sides was in progress, the Pak army tried to infiltrate militants into the Indian territory but their attempt was foiled by the alert Indian troops, official sources said. The small arms fire, which continued for about half an hour, restarted at 9 pm. When reports last came in, the intermittent exchange of fire between the two sides was continuing, the sources added. Sources said troops had been alerted all along the LoC to foil any infiltration bid by the Pak-based militants. The militants were desperate to enter India to disrupt the third phase of polls in the state, the sources added. |
