JAMMU, Dec 8: Alleging rejection of his candidature from Hiranagar assembly constituency by RO, Hiranagar, S P Rukwal, on baseless grounds, Balbir Singh, an independent candidate from the constituency, urged Election Commissioner of India that necessary investigations be carried out and he be given a chance to contest the polls. The J&K elections are being watched all over the world for obvious reasons and hence these are expected to be fair and free from all angles, he said, adding that the state election organisation needs to be well prepared in finalising the voter list. Unless 100 pc eligible voters are enlisted it will send wrong signal, he said adding that any left out voter is required to be included in the supplementary electoral roll meant for missing voters, he demanded. At present, about 2,000 applicants have applied for voter cards in the Hiranagar constituency alone, he claimed. The contesting candidate's application gets rejected with the plea that his name is not in the list due to system technical failure, he added and asked if this was the fair election system. Returning Officer (RO) overrules the order of District Election Officer, Kathua, not to deprive any contesting candidate because of system failure/technical delay in the list, he said. He appealed to ECI to postpone election in the Hiranagar constituency till supplementary list is prepared. ECI should promulgate fresh date and re-nominations be held, he demanded. |
