SRINAGAR, Dec 8: Director General of Police (DGP), K. Rajendra Kumar, today while reviewing the security arrangements put in place for the third phase of Assembly polls in the Valley maintained that elaborate arrangements have been made for the security of voters and polling booths.
Rajendra, was chairing the high level security meeting here this afternoon.
He sought reports regarding security and other arrangements made of respective areas of jurisdiction. He said that joint efforts and surveillance is necessary to conduct the third phase of elections in a smooth manner, disrupting the anti-national activities of some bad elements. "Previous phases of polls have given the people an encouragement to participate at a large in the democratic process, ignoring the boycott calls and the security agencies would have to remain more vigilant by making elaborate security arrangements so that people can exercise their franchise in a peaceful manner", he added.
The DGP stressed upon the officers to implement the action plan for the security of voters and polling booths. He said that maintenance of law and order should be the priority during polls, so that people could participate in the democratic process in a congenial atmosphere.
Rajendra appreciated the officers for their efforts made during the two phases of elections. He said that some hypersensitive constituencies of the districts including Baramulla, Budgam and Pulwama are going for polls and the security agencies have to undertake constant surveillance in these areas to foil any subversive act. Naka checking and night patrolling in these areas should be undertaken jointly by the police and para-military forces to ensure peaceful polling.
Rajendra stressed upon the officers to maintain close co-ordination within their ranks and other agencies to deal with any emergent situation in their respective jurisdictions.
