Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 10: Corruption which is an established problem across the world has become an issue of serious concern for people belonging to all walks of the society. The media has been highlighting the issue every now and then and no day passes when the newspapers or news channels do not carry issues related to graft and corruption. Jammu & Kashmir state has been ranked one of the most corrupt states in India by Berlin based NGO the Transparency International. Inspite of the fact that J&K state has several organisations which are working for eradication, exposing and prevention of corruption but none of these organisations even commemorated the International Anti- Corruption day which was celebrated world -wide on December 9th. This clearly shows how much serious our anti corruption agencies like State Accountability Commission (SAC), State Vigilance Commission (SCV) or Vigilance Organisation (VO) are towards eradication of corruption from the state.
Why to blame only Government controlled anti corruption agencies, not a single NGO in state , most of whom claim to be the torch bearers of society organized a seminar or conference to mark this day. The Universities and Colleges also sail in same boat and as per the reliable information not a single college or university organized any function on Tuesday Dec 9th, commemorating International Anti Corruption day.
Pertinent to mention that United Nations' (UN) International Anti-Corruption Day aims to raise public awareness of corruption and what people can do to fight it. It is observed on December 9 each year. International Anti-Corruption Day is a time for political leaders, governments, legal bodies; NGO's and lobby groups to work together against corruption work by promoting the day and the issues that surround this event. On this day anti-corruption advocates organize events to engage the general public to effectively fight against corruption and fraud in communities.
Other activities that promote the day include: Musicals and plays to publicize the message of fighting corruption. Keynote speeches by those who were victims of corruption or fought against it. Essay competitions on issues surrounding the topic of corruption. Tackling with corruption is a matter of concern for the resident of this corruption ridden state. The funds meant for development are get mismanaged & looted by politicians , engineers , bureaucrats and contractors right from village Panchayat to civil secretariat. The corrupt officials in our state always had patronage of Government and its ultimate victims have been the ordinary citizens of the state . It is hoped that the Anti Corruption Institutions will make it sure that they will create awareness about corruption and its manifestations in the society.
