Sonia's rally turns a damp squib | Congress leaders fail to gather crowds | | Bivek Mathur Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 10: If thin attendance at the MA Stadium for AICC president Sonia Gandhi's rally today was any indication, Congress is up for embarrassment after results for the ensuing assembly elections are announced on December 23. Political bigwigs including PCC chief Saif-ud-Din Soz and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad and huge cadre of the Congress party failed to bring in crowds for Sonia's rally and eye witnesses claim that there were 12 to 15 thousand people in the rally. The thin attendance in comparison to one that gathered for Narendra Modi's rally during Parliamentary elections is indicative of Congress' falling popularity graph in the regions like rest of the country. Political analysts believe that top Congress leaders including Sonia Gandhi, Saif-ud-Din Soz, Ghulam Nabi Azad are finding it difficult to attract the crowds in Jammu province against the BJP's star campaigner and charismatic leader Narendra Modi who attracted more than one lakh people in Udhampur town while campaigning for party's official contesting candidate Pawan Khajuria and more than 50,000 people in Vijapur town while campaigning for the party's candidate from Vijapur Assembly segment Chander Prakash Ganga. As per reports, 15,000 chairs were arranged by the Congress party in M.A. Stadium today out of which some chairs remained empty eventhough state Congress leaders from their constituencies including Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, former Minister Sham Lal Sharma, incumbent Minister Raman Bhalla, Balwan Singh, Vikram Malhotra, Surinder Singh Shingari, Mula Ram, Shiv Dev Singh had promised to bring in thick crowds. |
