Modi wave invisible in Kashmir, people remain aloof from BJP | | | Shakeel A Khan Early Times Report BUDGAM, Dec 10: The impact of Modi wave was not visible, not even a bit in the third phase of the assembly election like the previous two phases. The fourth phase of election which will cover the eight constituencies of the district Srinagar in Kashmir may prove too much for the party given the strong anti-party sentiment. "I watched the proceedings myself for the whole day inside the polling booth and nobody cast his or her vote in favour of the BJP. It was only me who pressed the button in favour of the candidate of the party and it is very much unlikely that the party will open its account from the valley," said an agent of the party (wishing anonymity) at the end of the polling in this Central Kashmir district. This agent went on saying that he had made a mind to join the party after BJP got clear majority in the parliamentary elections and had hoped that the party will be able to change the political course of the valley too. But given the mood, as this agent of the party said, it is very much unlikely that it will ever open its account in the valley. The maiden election rally conducted by the party and addressed by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi failed to impress the voters of valley. Even the efforts of the party to engage the clerics failed to pay any dividends to the party as the people of the valley seem to have maintained a clear distance from the party. "The BJP is pressing hard and utilizing all the sources at its disposal, from money to paid clerics to impress the voters in Kashmir. This is being done to give an impression throughout India that even the people of Kashmir have reposed faith in the party to gain political mileage. BJP is not the ideal political shelter for people in Kashmir," said Abdul Aziz. Aziz went on saying that the secular politics is the one which fit into the idea of every Indian and Kashmiris have no problem in that. Aziz concluded by saying that the extremism in whatever form can't be acceptable to Kashmiris and the results on December 23 will justify the stand of the people. Political pundits say that the mission 44+ of the party may not be realized after all given the fact that the party is not going to fetch even a single seat from the valley. |
