Al-Qaeda, ISIS formulate joint strategy to hit Indian cities? | Jammu, Uri attacks 'perturbing' | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 10: Speculations about terror groups Al-Qaeda and ISIS formulating a joint strategy to target Indian cities has put security agencies across the country on high alert. On September 3 this year a video containing the speech of Sheik Eyam Al-Zawahiri of Al-Qaeda, was uploaded on the internet. Zawahiri announced the establishment of a new Wing of Al-Qaeda, namely "Al-Qaeda in Indian Sub-Continent (AQIS)". Asim Umar and Usama Mehmood were appointed as the 'Amir' and 'Spokesperson' respectively of AQIS. Similarly, Abu Bakar Al-Baghdadi of ISIS in a video, uploaded on the internet highlighted the alleged plight of Muslims in various countries including India and stated that rights of Muslims are forcibly being seized in these countries. Reports suggest that these two terror outfits have very close and effective coordination. Soon after these videos were uploaded on the internet the state level agencies were directed to share the intelligence inputs on the regular basis with Central agencies and also not ignore even the slightest of the disturbing trends in their states. "The terror attacks in the Jammu and Uri specifically point out that terror outfits are desperate to hit at India. The possibility that these could have been carried out on the instruction of the above cited groups cannot be ruled out. The intelligence agencies in the J&K have to be more pro active. The attacks could have been prevented had there been more coordination among the agencies," said a senior official. According to source the centre has Multi Agency Centre (MAC) and has been re-organized to enable it to function on 24x7 basis for real time sharing of intelligence with other agencies and states. "It is major threat especially in JK which shares border with the Pakistan and also the Muslim majority state which these terror outfits are planning to strike. There is very less room to be complacent and rather security forces have to be pro-active especially when the elections are going on," said a senior official. |
