J&K notch historic win against Mumbai in Ranji | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 10: Jammu and Kashmir shocked domestic heavyweights Mumbai with a historic four-wicket win by chasing down 237 on the last day of the Ranji Trophy Group-A tie at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai today. Opener Shubham Khajuria led the innings again, with 78, and the win was sealed by an unbeaten 41 from Hardeep Singh after captain Parvez Rasool also scored 32. Earlier, J&K resumed on overnight score of 58 for one and Mumbai dismissed Bandeep Singh in the fourth over of the day before the visitors replied with a 50 partnership, and Rasool and Hardeep ensured they did not stutter much despite losing four more wickets, two of those taken by Vishal Dabholkar. Needing 179 runs when J&K started their fourth day and Abhishek Nayar jolted them a bit by dismissing Bandeep for 12. However, young Khajuria and Ian Dev Singh stitched a 52-run stand to take them past 100. Ian Dev scored a brisk 30 off 25 with four fours before Dabholkar struck. Khajuria continued to steer the ship and brought the required runs within 70 after bringing up his fifty. He gave a return catch to Iqbal Abdulla on 78 and Rasool also fell in the next over to leave them at 171 for five. The only way for Mumbai to turn tables was with a lower-order collapse, but Hardeep held his nerves and took J&K home despite Waseem Raza's run-out towards the end. Khajuria was named man of the match for his fifty in second innings and 107 in the first. |
