5 killed, 17 injured in Reasi road mishap; traffic police nonchalant | | | Early Times Report
Reasi, Dec 10: At least five persons were killed and 20 injured in two different road accidents of which five persons were killed and 17 others sustained critical injuries in Reasi when a overloaded mini bus they were travelling in skidded off the road and plunged into a gorge in mountainous Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir."The deceased have been identified as Tara Singh s/o Krishan Singh of Dhanori, Katra, Nimo Devi w/o Bodh Raj of Ragunath Pura Udhampur, Kamla Devi w/o Chander Parkash of W- 5 Katra and Junior Engineer Sanjeev Malhotra s/o Bal Krishan of Samba . According to police sources, "A mini bus bearing regd no JK02R /5512 on way from Reasi to Katra this afternoon at around 1500 hrs met with an accident near Ballni check post and plunged into a gorge,'' police sources here said. They said that two women and a junior engineer posted with Mata Vashnavo Devi Shrine Board are among five killed in this road accident. Reports added that on getting information about the road mishap, a police party led by SHO Katra, swung into action and reached the spot and started rescue operation. "All the injured were immediately rushed to Govt Hospital Katra where five of them were pronounced as brought dead while 17 others were referred to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu for specialized treatment," police sources said. The injured have been identified as Sohan Singh S/o Jagdish Singh r/o Katra, Satya Devi w/o Kaku Ram r/o Muttal, Mukesh kumar s/o Milkhi Ram r/o Makol Mandir, Subhash s/o Dev Raj r/o Rajouri, Rakesh kumar s/o Raju r/o Arnas, Shivali d/o Bodh Raj r/o Udhampur, Kuldeep Singh s/o Makhan Singh r/o Reasi, Mohammad Riyaz s/o Mohammad Sadiq r/o Katra, Darshna Devi d/o Krishan Lal r/o Katra, Sita Ram s/o Abhey Ram r/o Pancheri, Kakuram s/o Jalla Ram r/o Muttal, Vijay kumar s/o Ram Data r/o Katra, Sanjay Singh s/o Makhan Singh r/o Udhampur, Farman Ali s/o Bashir Ahmed r/o Served, Rekha Devi d/o Bindu Ram r/o Servad, Gaurav s/o Motiram r/o Amritsar and , Baldev Raj s/o Krishan Lal r/o Agar Jitto, Katra. This reporter when contacted IG Muneer Khan, he said that he will take serious cognizance of the failure on the part of the traffic management that has been unable to control the accidents .It is pertinent to mention here that after an accident that happened at Bhambla at district Reasi at Upper Hattal, the DySP Ram was contacted by this reporter to seek the reasons as to why such accidents happen. " I am an upright person and never allowed any corruption at any level ," was Ram Singh's assurance to this reporter . However , the accident that happened on Dec 6 at Bhambla was due to the overloading of the bus which had the seating capacity of 13 persons while it was ferrying 35 passengers .Today's accident too had a unique characteristic connected to it as the vehicle passed the two police nakas earlier before meeting with an accident at Banali check post that left 5 dead and seventeen injured .It is being alleged that drivers in connivance with the traffic police overload the buses after greasing the palms of the traffic personnel on the duty. "Besides they are seemed always busy using mobile phones while driving which is the main cause of these accidents." Said Khairati Lal, one of the kiosk owner at Katra -Reasi road who have been witnesses to the gruesome accident that occurred today. Meanwhile three Kashmir based youths were seriously injured in a road mishap at Kathua when their Swift car (JK03 D- 7260) had a head on collision with a bus bearing regd no JK08 -2187 (attached with CTM Kathua) early this morning. Police sources said, "The injured were immediately shifted to District Hospital (DH) Kathua The injured have been identified namely as Aamir Bashir, Hilal Ahmad and Ishfaq Ahmad, all hailing from District Pulwama, Kashmir. The injured however have alleged that Policemen on the spot have misbehaved with them and even seized their cell phones. Meantime concerned police have registered cases in the respective cases of accident and further investigations are on. |
