50 % migrant voters stay away from polls

Jammu, Dec 14: Nearly 50 percent of the migrant voters stayed away from the polling booths on Sunday in the fourth phase of the ongoing assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the official figures out of 20,955 registered voters only 11870 exercised their right to franchise in 16 assembly segments across Kashmir which went to polls today.
In Habba Kadal constituency out of over 16000 migrant votes nearly 4720 had opted for M Forms and out of which only 2613 turned up to cast their votes.
Likewise in Bijbehra which has over 5000 migrant votes, 2392 migrants had filled up their M Forms out of which 1431 turned up to cast their votes at different polling stations in Jammu.
In Amirakadal assembly segment out of over 4000 migrant votes only 1329 voters had filled up their M Forms and among them only 829 cast their vote.
In Hazratbal out of 570 migrants who had filled up their M Forms 347 cast their vote. In Zadibal Assembly segment of Srinagar out of 129 migrant votes 77 were polled while in Eidgah out of 152 votes 66 were polled. In Khanyar Assembly segment of Srinagar district out of 968 votes 283 votes were polled while in Sonawar Assembly constituency out of 372 votes 244 votes were polled.
In Batamaloo Assembly segment in Srinagar out of 805 votes 466 votes
were polled while in Wachi Assembly segment of Shopian district out of
1149 votes 636 were poled. In Shopian Assembly segment out of 828 votes 445 votes were polled while in Anantnag Assembly constituency. Out of 1618 votes 796 were polled and in Dooru assembly segment out of 1112 votes 643 were polled.
In Kokernag assembly segment of Anantnag district out of 1783 votes 1079 were polled while in Shangus and Pahalgam Assembly segments out of 1609 and 1419 votes 1038 and 897 votes were polled respectively.
In Delhi NCR 202 migrants cast their vote in four polling booths.
It may be recalled that in Habbakadal constituency has three Pandit candidates Raman Mattoo, Congress, Moti Kaul ,BJP and Sanjay Saraf, LJP. The Constituency had over 16000 migrant votes but the majority of voters preferred not to fill up the M Forms due to the cumbersome voting procedure said Ram Kumar a migrant.
