Vijaypur highest with 81 percent, Habba Kadal lowest with 21 percent
Around half of electors cast their votes in fourth phase of polling

SRINAGAR, Dec 14: Around 50 percent voters exercised their franchise as 18 assembly constituencies spread across four districts of Kashmir and Jammu divisions went to the polls today. Barring few minor incidents the polling remained by and large peaceful.
Elections were held for the eight assembly seats in Srinagar district, six assembly seats in Anantnag district, two assembly seats in Shopian district and two assembly seats in the Samba district of Jammu division. Samba district topped the overall voting percentage with more than 80 percent people casting their votes with Srinagar recording the lowest with just a shade under 28 percent
Addressing a press conference, Chief Electoral Officer, Jammu & Kashmir, Umang Narula said that 49 percent people cast their votes in the fourth phase of assembly elections. Narula said the highest turnout was recorded in Vijaypur assembly constituency of district Samba while the lowest was recorded in Habba Kadal Assembly constituency of Srinagar district.
"In Srinagar district 28 percent polling was recorded while as in district Anantnag 61 percent people cast their votes. In the Shopian district 50 percent polling was recorded while as in Samba district 79 percent people exercised their franchise," said Narula.
The Chief Electoral Officer said that among the eight assembly constituencies of Srinagar district Hazratbal assembly constituency recorded the highest with 29.36 percent polling. He said that in Zadibal assembly constituency 23.64 percent exercised their right to franchise and in the Eidgah assembly constituency 27.79 percent people cast their vote.
"In the Khanyar assembly constituency the voting percentage was 26.12 while as in Habba Kadal assembly constituency 21.01 percent people exercised their right to franchise. In the Amira Kadal assembly constituency 24.81 percent people cast their votes while as in Sonwar assembly constituency the voting percentage was 44.17. The voting percentage in Batmaloo assembly constituency was recorded as 24.34 percent," said Narula.
The Chief Electoral Officer said that in six assembly constituencies of Anantnag district, Anantnag assembly constituency recorded voting percentage of 38.67 while as in Dooru assembly constituency 63.94 percent people exercised their right to franchise. He said that in the Kokernag assembly constituency 64.90 percent polling was recorded.
"In the Shangus assembly constituency 67.27 percentage polling was recorded while as in the Bijbehara assembly constituency 53.87 percent people exercised their right to franchise. In the Pahalgam assembly constituency 68.53 percent people came out to cast their votes," said Narula.
The Chief Electoral Officer said that in two assembly constituencies of Shopian district, Wachi assembly constituency recorded the voting percentage of 42.66 while as in Shopian assembly constituency 52.06 percent people exercised their right to franchise. He said that in two assembly constituencies of Samba district, Samba (SC) recorded the polling of 77 percent while as in Vijaypur 81.31 percent people cast their votes.
Narula said the 18 assembly constituencies of the state that went to polls today were spread over four districts for which as many as 1890 polling stations were set up. He said that 182 candidates are in fray for the 18 assembly seats which comprised of 14, 73,050 electors including 7, 67,471 male and 7, 05,559 female voters besides 20 third gender voters. "Web casting was done in 155 polling stations while as at 48 polling stations digital and at 82 polling stations video cameras were installed to ensure free, fair and smooth conduct of polls. For this phase of polls 18 General Observers, six Expenditure Observers, three Police Observers, two Awareness Observers besides 384 micro observers and about 8,000 poll officials were deployed for the smooth conduct of polls," said Chief Electoral Officer.
