| BJP candidates assault polling staff; Hina Bhat faces wrath of NC workers | | | Early Times Report

Srinagar, Dec 14: BJP candidates assaulted polling agents and poll staff performing their duty, vitiating peaceful polling at more than one place oin Kashmir today, inviting wrath of people and police action. In Shopian, Police had to register a case against Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Javaid Ahmad Qadri after he slapped one Mushtaq Ahmad Mir, polling agent of one independent candidate, Advocate Shabir Ahmad Kullay triggering protest by polling agents of opposition parties . The matter was resolved only after independent candidate Kullay along with his supporters reached the spot and asked police to intervene and register a case against Qadri for Misbehaving with his polling agent inside polling station. Later a case FIR number 69/2014, under sections 392,323,139 and 132 was registered against Qadri in Police station Keller. In another incident, BJP candidate Dr Hina Bhat contesting elections from Amira Kadal constituency had to face wrath of National conference (NC) workers after Hina reportedly slapped on duty Presiding office in uptown Chana pora area after a brief argument between the two. The incident was followed by protest by NC workers. Sources said that Hina Bhat visited a polling centre in Methan Lal Nagar to review polling process and after going inside polling booth, Hina started arguing with polling staff for some unknown reasons and within seconds, she slapped Presiding officer who refused to accept her terms. Hina Bhat had to take refuge inside the polling centre after she faced wrath of political workers of the ruling party amid anti-BJP slogans. Normalcy was restored only after security personals were called in to rescue the BJP candidate. On contacting BJP kashmir wing Media and publicity advisor, Altaf Thakur regarding both the incidents in Shopian and Srinagar, he said, "in Shopian it was one unknown person from Wachi Constieucny who was seen by Qadri in a Polling booth and on asking about his whereabouts, Mushtaq Ahmad slapped Qadri first and later Qadri also slapped him; In case of Hina Bhat , one presiding officer was directing people to vote for NC and on seeing actions of presiding officer, Hina argued with presiding officer which resulted in heated exchange between the two, however matter was solved peacefully later". |
