Eye check-up camp for Shrine Board employees organized

KATRA, Feb 17: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, in collaboration with the Government Medical College, Jammu organised a comprehensive eye check-up camp at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Gurukul, Charan Paduka, here today.
A team of doctors from the Department of Ophthalmology, Government Medical College, Jammu, comprising Dr. Ashok Sharma, Associate Professor, Dr. Hansraj, Assistant Professor and Mr. Pawan Khajuria, Chief Refractionist conducted general eye examination, refraction, fundus examination and tonometry of the students of the Gurukul, Government Middle School, Purana Daroor and a large number of employees of the Shrine Board posted on the track in the Banganga Sector. Family members of the employees residing in Katra and Banganga Sector also availed of the specialized consultation of the Senior Doctors. The team of doctors examined and treated nearly 260 persons at the eye check-up camp, besides advising use of spectacles in some cases.
Earlier, Dr. Ashok Sharma interacted with the students and dwelt on the aims and objects of organising such eye check-up camps. He extended awareness about the high importance of proper eye care and also spoke about common eye ailments, prevention thereof and the role of a balanced diet for ensuring healthy eyes. Dr. Vinod Gupta, Director Medical Services, SMVDSB coordinated the organization of this camp and ensured that large number of students and employees draw benefit from this camp.
Dr. Mandeep K. Bhandari, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, informed that health check-up of the students of the Gurukul is conducted periodically. A dental check-up camp was organised at the Gurukul last month itself. He added that dermatological check-up and paediatrics camps would also be organised at the Gurukul for the students of the Gurukul as well as of the students of Government Middle School, Purana Daroor and employees of the Shrine Board and their families, shortly.
Dr. Bhandari also gave details of the various facilities being provided by the Shrine Board free of cost for the students of this fully residential Gurukul, which has been established by SMVDSB.
