Srinagar, Feb 17: Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) preferring its old horses for the MLC berths and ignoring new entrants has led to resentment in the BJP camp in Jammu and Kashmir. Sources told Early Times that scores of newcomers were camping in Delhi and Jammu to seek mandate for Legislative Council but most of them couldn't achieve anything as they have been told to work towards strengthening the party in the state. "We have to rehabilitate our old hands as they have served the party for past many decades," senior BJP leaders are understood to have told new BJP entrants. The veteran leaders of the BJP have reportedly informed the party high command that they have been working for the party's cause during all these years without any remuneration and they getting a stint as MLC would help them overcome their financial needs and would ensure that they draw a pension after their term is over. A BJP leader wishing not to be named revealed that party's decision to reward its old horses has not gone well with the new comers. "They (new comers) are feeling let down as they were hoping that they would get chance to become legislators but their hopes have been dashed," he added. Sources revealed that many people who had joined the BJP before the assembly polls last year are waiting for the new government formation anxiously with a hope that they would be given some role after the new dispensation is formed. "A few BJP leaders are losing patience and are hoping that new government is formed at the earliest as they believe that it can help them in establishing their clout and reaping the benefits of the BJP bagging 25 seats in the recent assembly polls," they said. A BJP insider said that if the party is unable to form the government with the PDP and if the stalemate continues there is every possibility of party witnessing a revolt. "Many new entrants are of the opinion that party should have at least given a chance to two to three new people to contest the forthcoming MLC polls," he said, adding, "New entrants are feeling ignored as their ambitious plans have failed to take off." A senior BJP leader while talking to Early Times said, "It's unfortunate that every tom, dick and harry wants some or other role. New people would have to first prove their mettle then only party leadership can think about giving them bigger roles." He claimed that rehabilitation of the veteran BJP leaders is must as "they are the ones who have kept the party alive in JK during all these years." "New comers cannot dictate terms to the party leaders. If they have to remain in the party they would have to fall in the line," he said. The leader said that new entrants are creating an impression that if they are not given "bigger roles" it can lead to the revolt in the party. "They (new comers) should understand that they cannot blackmail the party leadership nor can they dictate terms. They have to work as activists till they are given some responsible post," he added. |
