Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 17: With notification for the Jammu University Entrance Test (JUET-2015) issued today, Jammu University has nothing new for the students who want to pursue Post Graduate as well as Undergraduate courses other than traditional old courses being repeated since years from the date of establishment of the varsity.
The subject options for various PG as well as UG courses aspirants being offered by the Jammu University are nearly the same which were offered to the students during the year 2014. This notification has left the students of Jammu region with no other option than to go to other states to pursue some of the courses which are not available here at Jammu University but available at Kashmir University including M.A in Journalism, Bachelor courses in Journalism, Physical Education subjects at undergraduate level, Arabics, Foreign languages, Linguistics, MSW, Pharmaceutical Sciences and other important career oriented subjects.
As per reliable sources, the varsity was to start MA in journalism and Mass Communication in the tenure of the then Vice-Chancellor Prof Amitabh Mattoo for which an amount of Rs. 1.5 Crore was sanctioned by the state government and a campus was also identified in the building of General Zorawar Singh Auditorium with preparation of time table and establishment of a studio as well as laboratory for the students but later on, the said proposal was dumped due to reasons best known to the JU administration. With this, sources told Early Times that University has also failed to start the MA in philosophy course. M.Tech and B.Tech courses are among other courses for which the campus land was also identified near Bajalta but till date the university administration has failed to start these courses. Acting Vice-Chancellor, Jammu University Prof. R.D. Sharma when contacted in his traditional style asked this ET scribe to submit the claims in written for a written reply.
