BJP list for Upper House pits Jammu against Kashmir
Kashmir cadre expected Hina, Thakur in list

Srinagar, Feb 17: Nomination of 5 candidates for Upper House berths by BJP is likely to pit party's jammu and Kashmir units against each other as expected faces of Kashmir unit of BJP are missing from the list .
BJP today nominated candidates for five seats while as PDP is likely to put up candidates for the remaining six seats across the state. Sofi Yousuf of South Kashmir's Anantnag District is the only party candidate from the Kashmir province while the expected faces from Kashmir division including BJP's Srinagar Woman face Dr Hina Bhat and old face of BJP in Kashmir division presently holding Media in charge and Publicity responsibility for BJP in Kashmir, Altaf Thakur besides Dr Ali Muhammad are missing from the list.
The party high command according to BJP sources while giving major share to Jammu unit of BJP has nominated Vibodh Gupta, Ramesh Arora both state unit vice presidents of BJP and state secretary Charanjit Singh Khalsa and such a move according to sources may prove disastrous for BJP in Kashmir which faced tough times in Kashmir during Assembly elections held last year. Talking to ET, old face of BJP in Kashmir, Altaf thakur said fact he was expecting his name in the list, however added that it is the decision of Party High command so nothing can be done except to wait for another opportunity in future.
"All nominations are confirmed now; in March this year I may get an opportunity to be nominated as MLC from BJP, let us wait till then; I was expecting my name at serial number 2 though whatever Party High command has decided is infavour of BJP as a unit and for me as Well," added Altaf Thakur.
Pertinently elections to the state Legislative Council have been necessitated as eight members are retiring vey soon while as another three have been elected to the state assembly and polls will be held on March 2 for which the notification was issued on February 12 and the last date of filing nominations is February 18.
At present among the sitting MLC members retiring between March 9 and 16 are M. K Ajatshatru Singh from Jammu Province, B R Kundal from Jammu, Syed Asgar Ali from Jammu, Narboo Gialchan from Ladakh division of the state, Aga Syed Ahmad Rizvi from Kargil District of Ladakh Division, Vijay Bakaya from Kashmir, Syed Mohammad Rafiq Shah from Kashmir and Khalid Najeeb Suharwardy from Jammu Province, besides, Mohammad Ashraf Mir from Kashmir, Abdul Majeed Bhat from Kashmir and Davender Singh Rana from Jammu have since been elected to the Legislative Assembly held last year.
