Now a recruitment scam from Srinagar, appointments made during flood of Sept 2014 | Unending mess in Department of Education | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Feb 17: There seems to be no end to the mess in the Department of Education as yet another recruitment scam has surfaced with people being appointed on class IV posts in a hush hush manner. Sources told Early Times that in September 2014 when people of the Kashmir valley were battling with the devastating flood, office of Chief Education Officer, Srinagar invited applications for the appointment of class IV posts in the district. Applications were invited in September and the selection list was also compiled in the same month. "The whole process was completed in the month of September with the selected persons joining their duties in September instant. The whole process was fishy since the selection list was never made public with the appointees joining their duties in a quiet manner and that too within no time after being selected," said sources. Sources said that 65 persons were appointed on class IV posts with nobody knowing about the criteria followed during the selection process. The selection list caused furore among the people more so unemployed youth. The people say that since all the things were completed in a quick manner it is natural that the whole process is put under a scanner. "The selected candidates are very close to some of the ministers, officials and other influential people. The appointments were made in order to get votes for the politicians with all of them belonging to the National Conference and that too from the summer capital. Favours such as these helped the NC to win few seats from the Srinagar district," said sources. Sources said that the recruitment scam is a fit case for the Vigilance Organization to hold the probe. They said that everything would be crystal clear if the Vigilance Organization takes up the case seriously. They said the probe would lead to a situation wherein stern action can be against the culprits. "In a recruitment process the inviting of the applications is followed by the fixing of criteria before the interviews are conducted. Here in this case mere submission of applications was enough for the people to get appointed as class IV employees even if on contractual basis. No interviews were conducted and the selection list was out in few days time," said sources. Sources said that in such a manner the people who could have been appointed on the posts have been left out and thus have lost a golden opportunity to get appointed in the government sector. They demanded that Governor N N Vohra should take the matter seriously so that justice is meted out to the deserving people. It would be in place to mention here that a recruitment scam had surfaced in Budgam district wherein serious allegations were leveled against Chief Education Officer (CEO) Budgam, Nazir Ahmad Dar that he received money in lieu of class IV appointments in the district. The candidates alleged that the deserving candidates have been dropped from the selection list while as the blue eyed ones have been considered for the selection. The selection list was later on stayed by a court. |
