Early Times Report

Ramban, Feb 17 : Expressing his grave concern over detection of hundreds of cases of typhoid and diarrhoea in some villages of districts Rajouri especially Tehsil Darhal during past three weeks, People's Democratic Party leader Choudhary Hamid asked the government to send special teams of doctors to ground zero and also ensure adequate stocks of medicines in the area so that patients could be provided with better and timely health care facilities. From amongst the affected maximum are children and they are in dire need of specialised treatment in Rajouri. According to press release, he said that this epidemic has spread by sheer negligence of those authorities who had been supplying contaminated water to people and the matter must be got investigated so that responsibility is fixed and accused tried as per the law of land. This is nothing but sheer negligence that could have caused loss of several lives. Though doctors posted in the area are doing their best yet more cases of diarrhoea and typhoid are being reported from Rajouri and its adjoining areas which should be a cause of concern for the government. Places like Bela Colony, Kheora, Topa, Ward No. 7 and 8 of Rajouri are in the grip of typhoid while 43 fresh cases of diarrhoea have been detected in Darhal. These water borne diseases are likely to spread in other areas and before anything like that happens the government must stop act swiftly.
He said that laboratory results of water samples collected by medical team must be made public so that people could know the reasons of spread of these diseases. If need arise government must send more child specialists in the area to extend a helping hand to the existing doctors and paramedical staff so that patients get round the clock care.
He further asked the health department to send adequate medicines in the area so that doctors don't run short of anything in treating patients. Special pathological labs must also be set up in villages where epidemic has spread so that blood samples of people are tested immediately and treatment started accordingly. Any laxity in taking action against these epidemics, he apprehended could lead to disaster.
