Director ICDS approves Rs. 8.56 Cr for purchase of pre-school kits

Jammu, Feb 17: State Mission Director ICDS, Dr. G N Itoo today reviewed the functioning of Anganwari Centers at an officer meeting and sanctioned Rs 8.56 crores for the purchase of Pre-School kits under ICDS here today.
According to press release, apart from constituting special inter-district checking teams, various decisions were taken for effective implementation of ICDS schemes through 29599 Anganwari Centers functioning across the State.
The Director said that Anganwadi centers would be made vibrant as it is the first seat of learning and development of early childhood. He asked all the officers to maintain close coordination and ensure that ICD schemes running in the state yield the maximum results for over all benefit of deserving beneficiaries.
Dr Itoo said that the department has been given mandate to coordinate the programmes meant for Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and asked the Programme officers of identified districts of Jammu, Kathua, Anantnag, Budgam and Pulwama to give adequate publicity of the scheme for the benefit of common man. He also asked them to sensitize people about the availability of special vans provided by Govt. of India and the importance of girl child and their education.
Mission Director directed the concerned officers to ensure availability of qualitative nutrition to the beneficiaries and "there would be no compromise on quality of material and service", he exhorted. He asked them to expand the ambit of their activity and ensure that all the deserving children, women, adolescent girls are brought under the schemes of the department.
The meeting was informed that Rs 86.00 lacs have been released to Anganwadi Centers while Rs 856.00 lacs are being spent on purchasing Pre-School kits for benefit of children who are enrolled in Anganwadi centers. Department is spending Rs 170 crore on nutrition for the benefit of poor and needy people, it meeting was told.
The department has so far organized more than 30 awareness camps and a number of such camps will organize at district, block and village level in the identified five districts, it was given out in the meeting.
