Blast inside police cab kills foreign prisoner
4 Cops sustain injuries

BARAMULLA, June 20: A Pakistani prisoner was killed while five police men suffered injuries Saturday when an explosive device , believed to be a grenade exploded near Hygam village on the Srinagar -Muzaffarabad road.
Sources told Early Times that, "panic gripped Hygam area when a police ambulance was on its way back to Srinagar from Sopore, after a blast took place inside the cab near Time Pass restaurant killing a foreign prisoner died on the spot while injured five policemen.
"The police vehicle had gone to Sopore from central jail Srinagar, along with a Pakistani prisoner to produce him before the CJM Sopore, said sources.
However sources on anonymity conditions said that after hearing a case before the Additional Sessions Judge Sopore Kounser Ahmad Qureshi, he was sent back for judicial custody for a period of fifteen days.
Senior Advocate Sheikh Mohammad Ashraf was scheduled to appear on behalf of the prisoner. However, due to some unavoidable reasons he couldn't appear. His junior appeared on his behalf.
The prisoner was affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) and was arrested from SMHS Hospital in 2010.
"Sources said that as the vehicle reached Hygam area, an explosion went off from inside the cab killing the prisoner and injured four policemen.
The deceased prisoner was identified as Waheed Noor Khan S/O Mohammad Noor Khan R/O Rawalkoot district Poonch, Pakistan administered Kashmir (PaK). Sources further said that, "the foreign prisoner was arrested in 2007 under 302 RPC and 7/25 arms Act and was lodged in Srinagar's Central Jail, while adding they said that he was involved in an attack which had happened in the Sopore town few years back.
The injured policemen have been shifted to Sub District Hospital Sopore for treatment among which two were critical and later on they were shifted to Srinagar SMHS Hospital for advanced treatment.
The injured policemen were identified as Anwar Ali S/O Mohammad Hafeez R/O Hawal Srinagar, Ghulam Mohammad Mir (ASI) S/O Sonaullha Mir R/O Amargrah Sopore, Iftikar Ahmad S/o Dost Mohammad R/O Uri, Mohammad Amin S/O Ghulam Rasool Dar R/O Iqbalnagar Sopore and Abdul Majid R/O Bearue Budgam. A senior police official said that, "A Pakistani prisoner died in a blast and five policemen were injured among which one policeman Abdul Majid (455) succumbed to his injuries. The cause of the blast was not immediately known. However it is learnt that an explosive device went off inside the car. The blast took place inside the ambulance and whether it is a grenade or some other kind of blast is being ascertained, we are investigating the cause of nature of Blast and probe has been ordered in this regard, official said.
