Army foils infiltration bid, Killed three suspected ultras in Machil Sector of Kupwara district

KUPWARA, June 20: Army on Saturday claimed to have foiled an infiltration bid by killing three suspected militants at Machil sector in North Kashmir's Kupwara district.
Official sources said that in the wee hours on Saturday morning a group of 6-7 infiltrators who tried to sneak into this side near Sardari Nar along the Line of Control (LoC).
The group of infiltrators later intercepted by the army's 56 Rashtriya Rifle (RR) and 69 BSF near Jalandar Post in the dense forest area.
The group of infiltrators after being challenged opened indiscriminate fire with sophisticated weapons upon the forces. The fire retaliated by the army ensuing a fierce gunfight, during the gunfight three unknown militant have been killed, official said.
Meanwhile, a senior army official while confirming the incident said that army's alert troops foiled an infiltration bid along the LoC in the sector. "Three infiltrators have been killed during the gunfight".
"So far we have recovered one body along with one AK 47 and other war like stores from the site," the official said, adding that the heavy downpour hampered the search operation in the area.
"Two more bodies were seen and are lying in the area but due to bad weather conditions we are unable to retrieve them."
It is pertinent to mention here that, ' on June 6, three suspected infiltrators were eliminated in a gun battle after they tried to sneak into this side of Kashmir near Line of Control (LoC) in Nowgam sector of Handwara Tehsil of north Kashmir.
During the intervening night of June 5 and 6, a group of 4-5 infiltrators were intercepted after they sneaked in to this part of Kashmir near Atma Post in the Nowgam sector by army's 3 Kamaon Regiment, top official said.
"After being challenged, "the group of suspected ultras opened heavy volume of fire upon the security forces. The fire was retaliated from both the sides ensuing fierce gunfight that lasted for several hours on June 6, official added.
However on May 31, five to six heavily armed militants had sneaked into this side of Line of Control (LoC) who tried to storm army's 328 Field Surgical Centre at Bukhiyan village near Dak Bungalow Tangdhar.
The commandos and soldiers of 20 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), 12 Maratha and 26 Rajput laid a siege around the Bukhiyan village to prevents militants from fleeing the area.
