| If PDP leadership accepts Karra's suggestion it may result in political deluge in J&K | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 20: Is it blackmail or part of pressure tactics on the part of PDP for extracting more financial help from the centre ? It seems so when senior PDP leader,Tariq Hameed Karra suggested to the party leadership to rethink over its alliance with the BJP . Whatever it may mean one thing is sure Karra is either motivating the PDP to snap ties with the BJP or is planning to force the Government of India to enhance relief and compensation amount for flood affected people.
It also manifests dissensions within the ruling PDP because if Karra is enraged over what he calls inadequate financial assistance to flood hit people when other party leaders have conveyed their thanks to the Government of India for having released some quantum of aid for relief and reconstruction of the the basic infrastructure damaged by floods in September last.
A day after the Union Government announced Rs 1,667 crore package for relief and reconstruction work for the flood-ravaged Jammu and Kashmir, senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and Member of Parliament Tariq Karra hit out at the Centre and asked his party to "rethink over its alliance with the BJP"."The 'so-called' flood-relief package announced by the Government of India amounts to rubbing salt on the wound of Kashmiris," Karra said in a statement.
If some senior PDP leaders,including the Minister for Education Naeem Akhtar,feel satisfied with the quantum of aid given by the BJP led NDA Government for flood affected people they are not wrong because the previous Congress led UPA Government had not released even a penny for the flood victims when the Government in the centre was in power for more than six months after the flood hit the state of Jammu and Kashmir..Does this mean that Karra is not with those who have voiced sat isfaction over the central financial help to flood hit people?
May be that Karra has been enraged by the figure that indicates that the centre has sanctioned a Rs.16667 crore package for relief and reconstruction work for the flood affected Jammu and Kashmir when the total financial aid had crossed over Rs.5000 crores.Hence Tariq Hameed is supposed to read between the lines so that he is able to judge the difference between the policy adopted by the BJP led NDA Government and that of the Congress led UPA Government vis-à-vis Jammu and Kashmir. Suppose the PDP leadership concedes the demand of Karr and snaps ties with the BJP what will be its fallout? Its fallout will be a major political deluge which may wash out the PDP too. Snapping ties with the BJP may not necessarily motivate either the Congress or the National Conference to support the PDP in the formation of the Government.The Congress and the National Conference may opt for fresh elections.
Till the time the schedule for fresh election is fixed the state may be placed under the Governor's rule after the dissolution of the Assembly.There are possibilities that the Governor may not keep the Assembly in animated suspension because the PDP may not be able to reform the Government.
Once the state goes in for fresh election the BJP may face a tough time in the region of Jammu which has been its area of influence and from where it had won 25 out of 37 seats in the last election.
The fate of the PDP in the Kashmir valley,where it had won 25 out of 46 seats in the last election,may be similar to the BJP because of two factors.During the last 100 days it has not shown results foe which people had supported it in the election.By joining hands with the BJP it could suffer a severe erosion in its vote bank in the Kashmir valley.
The PDP and the BJP leadership is aware of it and hence the two carry on even in the face of growing conflict of interest and ideology.Hence Karra should revise his opinion and understand the damage that can be done if the PDP leadership accepts his suggestion and snaps ties with the BJP.If the PDP leadership concedes the proposal dished out by Karra it would fulfill the wishes of Congress and the NC which have been trying to pull down the coalition Government. |
