Jammu, June 20 : How the theatre promotion under the patronage of Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages is being patronized by the art touts is presently being showcased under the aegis of ongoing Reasi Theatre Festival and has brought its credibility under the immediate scanner.
Six plays performed in the 'competition' are scheduled to get the performance money besides added bouquets that come as best play, best director , best actor, best actress, best costumes etc all containg the money purse .
The irony of the fact on the ground is that entire show is a 'sellout' affair which is conducted under the machinated process 'hijacked by the touts' in Jammu, most of them being JKAACL officials conniving with the influential ones in Reasi. Out of six plays in competition, three of the groups entertained belong to a familial forte of a Reasi's influential theatre doer who acts as a liaison tout between JKAACL officials and Reasi and is the major beneficiary as far as the exchange of illegal money shared between them in arranging the festival is concerned.
Reasi Theatre Organisation (Regd), one of the pioneering theatre and cultural organisation of Reasi while leveling serious allegations against the felony has demanded an independent probe into the affairs of the academy.
Talking to Early Times, Sunit Kumar, president of RTO said that out of four plays included in the festival from Reasi, three are being presented by one family ignoring the bonafide right of hundreds of other artists belonging to District Reasi.
He also alleged that most objectionable is the way the plays have been sublet to Jammu based artists and groups in the name of Reasi district. "On the opening day of the festival it was announced that a group of Reasi is performing the play but surprisingly all actors on stage were from Jammu. So what was the fun of using the name of Reasi when the entire cast is being imported from Jammu?", he questioned.
The entire exercise has been conspired by few artists in hand in glove with the officials of the Cultural Academy of Jammu," said Sunit Kumar.
JKAACL additional Secretary Arvinder Singh howver denied the allegations. He said, "Reasi theatre festival is being confused with the festival only of reasi district while it includes Udhampur and Kathua performers," he said adding that no theatre doer from Jammu is participating in the festival.
However, the two plays produced so far in the festival as per the release issued by JKAACL include names of some prominent theatre doers of Jammu extending their services in various categories viz, costumes, stage settings, music etc. Even the actors performing in first play were from Jammu , verification for which is required.
Meanwhile, Sunit Kumar has appealed the Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed who is also the head of the Cultural Academy and Minister Culture Haseeb Drabu totake cognizance of the conspired strategies in the field of culture and book the culprits and fix the responsibilities with due penalties.
