Excise sleuths unearth Excise Tax Evasion racket in Katra | | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 20: Excise and Taxation sleuths claimed to have busted an excise tax evasion racket with arrest of two persons who were arrested on the other day during a raid in holy town of Katra alongwith 416 Poly Pouches of liquor J&K Excise (250/250 ml each).. According to official spokesperson, an FIR No.96/2015, U/S 48-A Excise and 188/RPC was registered in P/S Katra when police recovered 416 Poly Pouches of liquor J&K excise measuring 250/250 ml each from accused identified namely as Vishal Sharma s/o Mohan Lal of W- 11 Reasi, Rakesh Sharma @ Raju Gunda s/o Bodh Raj of Matyal, Katra while manhunt is on to nab Rakesh Kumar @ Manu s/o Hukam Chand of Mari -District Reasi who is still at large. "An angle of Excise Tax Evasion has envisaged during investigation that seems a big racket evade from taxes in huge amount of State Government. J&K Excise department is also overcome into action in this behalf, official said adding, "Deputy Excise Commissioner (Executive) Jammu has directed Excise Taxation Officer (ETO) Doda-Udhampur Excise Range to enquire into the matter and furnish report especially giving detail mentioning batch No, Hologram if affixed and etc." Meanwhile, Inspector Excise Sub range Udhampur examined the consignment of illicit seized by Katra police under FIR No. 96/2015 and as per his report submitted to ETO Doda Udhampur, the seized liquor was manufactured by M/S Rockland distilleries Pvt limited Bari Brahmna Jammu and M/S Ransan Industries Gangyal Jammu and seized illicit liquor does not have any Batch Number, manufacturing date and Security Hologram." Deputy Excise Commissioner (Distilleries) Jammu has asked SDPO Katra to provide the detail of illicit liquor stock seized by P/S Katra and the communication by the District Police revealed that it came to the light the seized illicit liquor was being sold in open market without paying Excise Duty and in this regard Excise department has also initiated enquiry into the matter and Excise department is competent to investigate the tax evasion angle if so. |
