Jammu, June 25: In a matter of shame for the Drug and Food Control Organization, J&K, the Designated District officer of the Food and Safety Department Samba, Pankaj Soni is allegedly implicating some suppliers of the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) in fabricated cases for some personal interests. This was disclosed by Deputy Commissioner, Samba, Sheetal Nanda when she was contacted about the alleged irregularities in the lifting and passing of samples under the ICDS scheme. She said the designated District Officer, Pankaj Soni during the inspection, lifted some samples of Gram (Channa Dal), Suji and edible oils from the Anganwadi centers in Ghagwal, Purmandal, Samba, Vijaypur, Ramgarh and Bari Brahmana area and blamed some of the innocent owners of ration stores for supplying sub-standard food material to the Anganwadi centers despite the fact that the samples in fact were not lifted from their stores. She said the officer did this for some personal interests best known to the officer. "I came to know about this issue from the firm owners after they (firm owners) approached me in my office and disclosed that the Food Safety Officer, Pankaj Soni is harassing them for some personal reasons. Following this, I constituted a six members team and visited the stores of these firms on my own. There I found all the samples up to the safety standards as recommended for their use in Anganwadi centres under the ICDS scheme", she said. DC Samba, Sheetal Nanda, further said that the samples of edible oil and Suji, during an inspection headed by herself in the Anganwadi centers of the Samba District were found substandard and hence strict directions were issued to all the Anganwadi centers for avoiding the purchase of substandard edible oil and Suji. |
