Conspiracies being hatched to destablise PDP-BJP coalition: Madhav
Nationalists up in arms
6/26/2015 12:08:43 AM

Early Times Report
Jammu, June 25: BJP national general secretary and one of the chief architects of the agenda of alliance Ram Madhav was in Jammu & Kashmir between June 22 and June 24. He visited both Jammu and Srinagar and held meetings with party ministers, legislators and workers as well as with certain civil society members to get feed back on the performance of the BJP ministers and the PDP-BJP coalition government and know what should the party do to expand its support-base in the state.
During one of the meetings with party workers in Srinagar, Ram Madhav disclosed that there were elements who were hatching conspiracies to detabilise the PDP-BJP coalition government and urged them to defeat all such forces. "Certain conspiracies were being created by some forces in the state. The party workers (should) act as a bridge between government and general public in the state to defeat the intentions of such persons," he was quoted as saying.
Who are the persons who are hatching conspiracies against the coalition? Certainly, not the NC and the Congress. Destabilisation of the coalition at this juncture would not help the NC and the Congress. They would want some more time for the coalition so that it committed more acts of omission and commission and became unpopular. More over, elections to the assembly are almost six years away. Yes, the NC and the Congress do criticise the functioning of the coalition government, but it is their fundamental duty. They are in the opposition and they have to take on the coalition in case they feel that the latter is not delivering. At the same time, there are instances and instance which suggest that the NC and the Congress supported the coalition on several issues and strengthened its hands against the Central Government. Take, for instance, their support to the coalition's demand for more funds for the relief and rehabilitation of flood victims in the Valley.
Even the separatists in Kashmir have not done anything during all these more than 100 to destabilise the coalition government. The present dispensation is quite soft towards them and this is what they want. Is it not a fact that anti-national activities multiplied during all these days?
Besides, the agenda of alliance recognises separatists and Pakistan important factors in Kashmir. Of course, there are some civil society groups in Kashmir, who are also part of the ongoing secessionist movement in the Valley, who have been raising hue and cry on occasions, but their demands could not be termed as manifestations of their hatred for the coalition. They are simply demanding more relief for flood victims and urging the administration to cater to the needs of the people. They are clamouring for adequate civic amenities, jobs, regular power supply and so on. They have not risen in revolt against the ruling coalition.
Who, then, is conspiring against the coalition (read the BJP)? It is the nationalist constituency in the state in general and people of Jammu region, besides the internally displaced Kashmiri Pandits, refugees from West Pakistan and similar other social groups in Jammu, who are unhappy with the BJP. They are criticising the BJP and the agenda of alliance. They have also come on the roads a number of times and lambasted the BJP and its policies towards Jammu & Kashmir, Pakistan, discriminated against regions of the state and the people these regions house and the New Delhi's soft approach towards separatists in the Valley. It is they who organized two massive bandhs and one equally impressive candle light protest march against the BJP and the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre. They all protested to seek justice and for the promotion of national interest in the state and this cannot be termed as a conspiracy. To term the protests in Jammu and ongoing movement in Jammu for the establishment of AIIMS as conspiracies would be only to rub salt into their wounds. Ram Madhav would do well to revise his opinion. It would be better if he persuaded the Union Government to undertake measures aimed at conciliating the nationalist constituency in the state.
