LMD sleuths book four for 'overcharging' during crack down 6/26/2015 12:05:04 AM Early Times Report Jammu, June 25: Acting swiftly on the complaints of tourists being fleeced by unscrupulous traders and to ensure that quality eatable are being sold in the market especially near Railway Station Jammu, a team of Deputy Controller Legal Metrology, SDM South, Assistant Director CA&PD and others constituted by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Jammu Simrandeep Singh today booked four business establishments for overcharging the visitors. The team comprising Deputy Controller Legal Metrology, SDM South, Assistant Director CA&PD, Tehislsdar Bahu, Food & Drug department and concerned SHO's conducted extensive checking of shops dealing with eatables and other items of tourist interest ahead of Amarnath Yatra. During inspection, the team found M/s Annpurna Bhojnalya overcharging the tourists and a case of overcharging was registered by Inspector Legal Metrology under the relevant provisions of law. Besides this rates were corrected on the spot in the interest of the consumers and instructions were issued to serve quality food items. Yet in another surprise visit, the team found M/S Vaishnavi Restaurant cheating gullible consumers by overcharging on the pretext of being a Restaurant. "On scrutiny of the documents, it was found that the said Dhabha is not registered with the appropriate department to be classified as a Restaurant and hence booked for overcharging, an official added. The team also inspected Dry fruit sellers and handicraft items seller and traders were booked for violations of non marking of mandatory declarations for the information of consumers like MRP, PKD, Net Weight and address of the manufacturer on all the packed saleable items.
