Locals whose land got acquired for RSD project stage protest

Kathua, June 25: Residents of Tehsil Basohli whose land was acquired by Ranjit Singh Sagar Dam administration and Punjab Government during construction of dam today staged a massive protest demonstration against Dam administration and Punjab government in the premises of DDC office Kathua and raised slogans against Punjab Government and Administration of Ranjit Sagar Dam.
The protesters alleged on Punjab government for neglect the suffering of 1802 affected families who still not receive any compensation or government job for one member of family whose land acquired in Dam. The protesters said Punjab government has denied any compensation as agreed by the agreement made between Punjab and J&K government for rehabilitation and employment to each affected family during marking.
Led by Tejinder Singh the protestors hailing from Basholi said Punjab government, according to agreement, has agreed to allot a plot of 10 marlas, concrete structures and employment to each affected family but till date only 398 families could get benefit under such agreement, rest of the families have been roared for justice.
Tejinder said Thein Dam Collector issued eligibility certificates to those whose lands acquired by the Dam administration but Punjab govt denies accepting such eligibility certificates. He also said the matter has been discussed with DDC Kathua but only assurances are doled to them.
He said MLA Basohli Ch Lal Singh too has assured to discuss the matter with Punjab government but all in vain.
An aggrieved local Sham Lal alleged on Punjab Govt makes different criteria for Himachal Pardesh, Punjab and J&K, and added full compensation has been given to Himachal Pardesh and Punjab based dam affected people at priority basis but denied to compensate J&K based affected people reasons better known to officials at helms of affairs.
Another protester Shaker Dass appealed Governor of State to intervene the matter for appropriate compensation. Meanwhile the protesters threatened to intensify their stir if their demands are not met. They also said they will soon meet Divisional Commissioner Jammu and if possible shall take up matter Prime Minister/ Union Home Minister unless redress of their demands for rehabilitation and employment.
