| Suspension of Charak, Vakil, Aziz setback to Azad faction in Cong | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 20: The suspension of three Congress leaders who were considered to be very close to leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and former Chief Minister of the State, Ghulam Nabi Azad is a great setback to Azad faction in the Party. The factionalism in Congress Party surfaced soon after the former Minister, G A Mir was appointed as PCC chief. His elevation to the post came as a rude shock to some senior Congress leaders who were not ready to accept him as their leader. These leaders openly revolted against Mir saying that being too junior they will not work under him. However Mir tried to keep the House in order by organizing senior party leaders from all the three regions including his betenoire and former Minister Peerzada Mohammed Sayeed, another former Minister, Taj Mohi-ud_Din, former PCC chief Saif-ud-Din Soz and leaders from Jammu region including former Ministers Sham Lal Sharma, Raman Bhalla, Madan Lal as well as senior leader from Ladakh and former Minister Rigzin Jora. But some senior Party leaders and former ministers were not ready to accept his hegemonyand they included Abdul Gani Vakil, Gulchain Singh Charak and Prem Sagar Aziz. Though the trio is supported by more Congmen in the State who also are for change in leadership and wanted that High Command should reconsider the decision. However the Party's disciplinary Committee to which Ghulam Nabi Azad is also a member made the trio a scapegoat. This has come a rude shock tosuspended leaders who had many expectations from Mr Azad. However Abdul Gani Vakil who had already submitted his resignation from the party is likely to join any other political party in Valley and as per sources he is tossing the idea of either going to PDP or National Conference (NC). Though BJP leadership is also trying to approach him to make him as Party's Muslim face in the State but Mr Vakil has showed his reservations in this regard so far and he has preferred to maintain a distance from Safron Party. Sources said BJP had tried to send some emissaries to Vakil but the former Minister has not given themhis mind as yet and asked them to wait for some time. Sources said BJP will not hesitate in rehabilitating Mr Vakil in the party honourably in case he joins BJP and the Party will offerhim a post as per his choice. The PDP is also eyeing former Minister but with the drawback that he belongs to the same Constituencywhere from its senior leader and former Minister Dillawar Mir comes,the Party is hesitating to take any risk to annoy Mir who is also very close to PDP leadership. However Mr Vakil has good relations with NC and there is every likelihood that former Congress Minister will prefer to join the bandwagon of Omar Abdullah and NC will also not hesitate in welcoming him in the Party fold being senior leader from North Kashmir and having a vast experience in politics.
Now the time will only tell which way the wind blows. Mr Charak and Prem Sagar Aziz have kept cards close to their chest and they have not given their mind as yet. But Mr Charak is also considered having proximity with BJP leader ad Health and Medical Education Minister Ch Lal Singh who also resigned from the Congress and joined BJP.
