Pak against PDP-BJP Govt

Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 20: It has over the days become customary for the BJP leadership to either suppress facts and hide the truth or take recourse to falsehood or half-truths and they indulge in double or triple-speak only to mislead the people. It's a different story that people do not walk into their trap, as they now know what the BJP is all about. Then, there is the ever-alert media which has been playing a very important role as fourth estate and tearing into bluffers and anti-people and anti-democratic parties and formations. Ironically, the parties like the BJP refuse to appreciate criticisms against them and continue to make speeches/statements which do not reflect the truth.
Take, for instance, what BJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh said at Jalandhar on Sunday. He, like his party bosses in Delhi, charged Pakistan with seeking to destabilize the PDP-BJP coalition government in the state and also charged the responsible Indian media with creating hype over the waving of Pakistani and ISIS flags in Kashmir. He asked media to ignore such anti-national events, saying the waving of the enemy's flags in Kashmir by a few hundred Kashmiri Muslims should not be blown out of proportions and that they indulge in such activities only to remain in the news. Earlier, Defence Minister Manhohar Parrikar had also advised the media to ignore anti-India events like hoisting of Pakistani and ISIS flags, saying it was the media which was keeping a handful of anti-nationals alive. Very interestingly, the stand of the PDP is also similar.
The suggestion of the Deputy Chief Minister that "there is immense pressure from Pakistan to end the BJP-PDP government in Jammu & Kashmir" doesn't reflect the whole truth. Yes, Pakistan would always like political instability in the state because it feels that in political instability lies its success in the Valley, but there are powerful elements in the PDP itself, besides all the non-PDP parties, who have been urging patron of PDP and Jammu & Kashmir Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to review the alliance with the BJP, asserting this alliance has been hurting the PDP in the Valley.
Lok Sabha MP, founder member of the PDP and former Finance Minister Tariq Hamid Karra has openly said it at least thrice and another Lok Sabha MP, founder member of the PDP and former Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig has said so indirectly. "Mufti Sayeed has been feeling betrayed. He should have direct link with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The agenda of alliance, which is an unsigned document, is only on paper and so on," he has said a number of times. Significantly, another Lok Sabha MP and party president Mehbooba Mufti has not spoken a word on Jammu & Kashmir, on the PDP-BJP coalition government and on the functioning of the coalition government for months now. She has been conspicuous by her absence. Where is she? Nobody knows. Why is she silent? Everyone is asking.
As for the BJP-in-power in the state, less said the better. Suffice to say that there is broader consensus at the national level that the BJP has committed a grave blunder by becoming part of the state government and that its becoming part of the state government "has hurt the national interest and only helped the anti-nationals to gain an upper hand in Kashmir". The view in Jammu region and Ladakh has been no different. It should explain everything.
All this should establish that the suggestion of the Deputy Chief Minister that Pakistan has been conspiring against the PDP-BJP coalition government is just ridiculous and it should also prove that he only beat about the bush.
The Deputy Chief Minister also did a complete U-turn on Article 370, besides withholding truth at Jalandhar. He said Article 370 was in the party manifesto and on the party agenda, but it could be scrapped only after the BJP gets a majority in the assembly, which will never happen. "It (Article 370) was in the BJP manifesto and on our agenda. But for that, we will have to take the due constitutional process and implement it only when conditions are right".
It is pertinent to mention here that the BJP did not release its Election Manifesto 2014 to the press, notwithstanding the fact that it was prepared by Prof Hari Om as chairman of the Manifesto Committee and its two member Sunil Sethi and Nirmal Kamal betted it after detailed discussion. It was only after its approval that the approved manifesto was printed. Earlier, the draft manifesto was read and re-read by no less than 20 senior BJP leaders. The BJP decided not to release the printed manifesto only after the Bandookwali Hina Bhat declared at Srinagar that she would join militancy and pick up gun if the BJP raked up the issue of Article 370 during the election campaign or it included even a reference to Article 370 in the election manifesto. The BJP high command not only obliged her by throwing the election manifesto into dustbin, but also by giving her mandate for assembly election. She lost her security deposit. And today, she is considered by the high command as the party's most prominent and powerful face in Kashmir. It is she who mostly represents her party during debates on national News channels.
The Deputy Chief Minister would do well to talk straight. It's no use taking recourse to falsehood or half-truths as people know everything. The more he speaks the more unpopular he becomes. He should remember that those who try to fool others become themselves fools in the process.
