Early Times Report
Jammu, July 20: The regional discrimination with Jammu can be gauged from the fact that the successive governments allocated surplus grant in aid to the most of the autonomous bodies of Kashmir and peanuts to Jammu in last five years.
Sources told Early Times that the previous government had allocated lesser grants to most of the autonomous bodies of the Jammu as compared to Kashmir region.
"The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) was issued Rs 500.31 crore in last five years by the previous state government while Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) was given Rs 423.76 Crore that is Rs 76.55 crore less," they said
As per yearly breakup, in 2009-10, SMC was issued Rs 73.33 crore and Rs 76.93 crore of assistance was given to JMC. In 2010-11 SMC received amount of Rs 107.18 crore while JMC got Rs 74.60 crore, in 2011-12 SMC got Rs 112.42 crore and JMC Rs 69.98 crore. In 2012-13 SMC received Rs 89.65 crore and JMC Rs 127.95 crore, in 2013-14 JMC Rs 74.30 crore and SMC Rs 117.73 crore, they revealed.
They further said that Urban Local Bodies Kashmir was given Rs 264.43 crore while Urban Local Bodies Jammu got Rs 160.5 crore in five years that is 103.93 crore less.
Likewise, Sher e Kashmir University of Agriculture Sciences and Technology Kashmir (SKUAST-K) received Rs 402.29 crore while Sher e Kashmir University of Agriculture Sciences and Technology Jammu (SKUAST-J) got 199.95 crore less Rs 202.34 crore to Jammu.
Pertinently, the agricultural technology in Jammu is not upgrading with the time due to less importance to the SKUAST-J financially but due to apathy of government is agricultural sector is shrinking with each passing day.
Sources further revealed that government had allocated Rs 332.7 crore to Kashmir University and Rs 290.57 crore given to Jammu University nearly Rs 42.13 crore less funds than the funds released to KU in five years.
