Early Times Report
Jammu, July 20: The Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Gundna of Doda district has exposed the tall claims of the government especially that of the minister of state of education, Priya Sethi about infrastructure in government run schools. The GHSS has just two rooms to accommodate 750 students.
Sources informed Early Times that GHSS Gundna was upgraded by state government in the year 2007 but failed to provide the required infrastructure.
At present the school has one building block having total four rooms including two classrooms, one principal room and one for laboratory. It is very surprising that in each year more than 700 students enrolled from 9th to 12th class in GHSS Gundna but astoundingly they are found packed in two rooms and rest of the classes are run in the open.
They further said that Gundna Higher Secondary School also violates the norms of State Board of School Education. As per board norms the accommodation for each student in classroom from Class I- 12 shall provide 9 square feet of floor space and the limit of admission of the students to class or section of a class to maximum of 45 students in each class or section of a class where as class comprises more than one section but at GHSS Gundna has only two classrooms having space10"X10".
"In addition one science laboratory for each science subject for practical work, library cum reading room to accommodate a maximum of 50 students at one time, staff room, principal room and office room but surprising GHSS Gundna has one room for laboratory of all science subjects and Library", the said.
They further said that current year around 750 students enrolled in this school but due to insufficient building infrastructure students' takes lesson in open sky. The school has virtual neglect shown by previous government, which otherwise had concentrated on 'Transfer Industry' rather than prioritizes education. But in this government people hoped to provide such facilities to these rural schools but nothing has done on ground, this government concerned Ministers gave statements in Air condition rooms that they had committed to upgrade infrastructure in schools.
They further said that two years back a double story building was sanctioned to GHSS Gundna but till date their work would not be started best reason known to higher authorities of Education department.
"In the rain, we cannot study while in the scorching heat, we have no shelter to protect ourselves from the sun which beats down directly upon us", said Rahul, a student of 10th class.
In charge Principal GHSS Gundna accepted and said that few days back Deputy Commissioner Doda visit here in which he assured that the double story building construction work would be started within month.
Repeated calls by this Jurno to Chief Education Officer, Doda, Ajit Kumar Sharma and Director School Education Jammu, Yasha Mudgal could not be contacted.
