Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 20: The BJP, which with much fanfare committed in writing on June 18 that it will obtain an appropriate order from the Government of India for establishing AIIMS in Jammu latest by July 20, has broken the solemn commitment, ditched people across Jammu region and the AIIMS Coordination Committee (ACC) to which it made a categorical commitment and vindicated all those, including many members of the ACC, who had expressed the view that the "BJP is a not a party that could be trusted and depended upon".
"The BJP made the commitment only to draw away the aspirations of the people of Jammu region. It made the commitment only to get the bandh call withdrawn. It is not committed to what it gave in writing. The ACC shouldn't have trusted the BJP," many in Jammu had opined on June 18.
It needs to be underlined that two BJP ministers, including Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh and forest Minister Bali Bhagat, had given the written commitment on AIIMS in the presence of so many ACC members, BJP MLAs, government officials as well as media persons, who covered for hours what happened at the PWD Rest House, Gandhi Nagar, during the meeting between the BJP and the ACC leadership and at the lawns in front of the statute of Maharaja Hari Singh, Tawi Bridge, where people were sitting on hunger strike. In between, Avinash Rai Khanna, parbhari Jammu & Kashmir BJP, and Nirmal Singh reiterated that the decision will be announced as promised. On July 18, former PDP and NC man and BJP chief spokesperson Sunil Sethi also declared in a press conference in Jammu that the decision would be announced as per the "agreement" and he made this statement while accusing the ACC of breaching the agreement reached with the BJP ministers.
By not fulfilling the commitment, the BJP has lost its face and credibility. Who will now believe in and trust the BJP? Who will now vote for the BJP? The brazen and shameful manner in which the BJP broke the promise has not only shaken the faith of the people who voted for it both in the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in 2014 and gave it a political status in the state it had never dreamed of but also angered the entire population of the region.
But more than that, its act of betrayal has established beyond shadow of doubt that it has sold out Jammu region and its people and that it is nothing but an extension of Kashmiri parties, all committed to jeopardizing the rights and interests of the people of Jammu region and enslaving them. Besides, more than that, the manner in which the solemn promise and commitment was broken established for all the times to come that New Delhi-under-any-political party would never discard its appeasement policy and that it would go on humiliating the very vast nationalist constituency in the state to keep the restive and blackmailing Kashmir in good humour.
"We committed a blunder by voting for the deceitful BJP. We will never forgive the BJP. We will decimate the BJP in the next elections. We will ensure its defeat in the local-bodies' elections. We will crate a situation in Jammu region which would ensure that those who ditched us and betrayed us do not dare to venture out of their houses," said many aggrieved people of Jammu while talking to this correspondent.
Now that the BJP has broken the promise, it is clear that Jammu region would witness a serious confrontation between the popular ACC and the promise-brokers. And if things take an ugly turn, it would be the BJP which will be held squarely responsible for the conflict or mass struggle in Jammu. Indeed, the BJP has committed an act that would lead to its political demise not only in the Jammu region but would also damage its electoral interests in the rest of the country.
