Avinash Azad Early Times Report jammu, July 20: Owing to lackadaisical approach of administration of University of Jammu, Phonetic Laboratory established to cater to languages departments in the campus was lying defunct since 2012. Sources told Early Times that the investment for establishment of the laboratory has proved boondoggled. "University Grant Commission (UGC) sanctioned Phonetic Laboratory for University of Jammu in its 11th plan (2007-12). Rs 60 lacs were also spent on infrastructure", sources said, adding that the administration has not bothered to make the lab functional. "Presently, Prof Jasveer Singh, who is also provost hostel, is holding the charge of Coordinator, being incharge of prestigious centre, created for research, analysis and development of languages, could do little to make it functional", they said. Sources further said that after completion of the laboratory, charge of coordinator of the lab was Dr Deepshikha Kotwal, and Prof Jasveer was made deputy coordinator of the lab. "After retirement of Dr Deepshikha, Prof Jasveer was independently holding the charge of coordinator of the lab which was not put to any use", sources informed. Sources added that Vice Chancellor, Dr RD Sharma was also aware about non-functioning of the centre. "After holding charge of VC, Dr Sharma has visited the laboratory, but he too, did not bother about making it functional", they said and added, . Prof Keshav Sharma, Registrar University of Jammu, when contacted said that he was not aware about non-functioning of the laboratory. "Recently I took over charge of the post, so I don't know about it", he said. |
