SAMBA, Feb 10: A team of Wild Life Department today rescued a leopard, which was caught in a trap laid by some hunters in the village Birpur in Bari Brahmana.
The beast who was roaming in the area for last some days and there were reports that some cattle of nomads had also fallen a prey to the wild animal. The reports said that the beast was seen with its cubs and the people had created a hue and cry in the area.
However the hunters active in different parts of the area became active on hearing the news and they laid a trap to catch the wild with the result the beast was caught in it. The beast is in injured condition also and the wild life officials after rescuing the animal and took him under their control.
After giving the treatment to the leopard the Wild Life officials are likely to release him in the natural in habitat. However the action of hunters has posed a question mark over the functioning of the Wild Life Department who failed to reign in the hunters in the area.
Though the authorities turn down that the trap was laid in the area but eye witnesses say that they have themselves seen the animal had fallen in a trap laid by the hunters.
The people working for the protection of wild life animals in the State and country have expressed their serious concern over the failure of the authorities in ensuring security to wild animals who play an important role in protection of environment and making ecological balances.
The said the survival of wild animals is as important on this globe as is that of human beings and if the balance of the wild animals decreases considerably it will result in ecological imbalance as well.
They said if the people some days earlier had reported about the presence of Leopard and its cubs in the area the Wild Life should have swung into action and taken control of them and releasing them in near by forests to decrease the animal -man conflict also.
However police said, this morning a villager spotted a leopard caught into the trap and informed the village Sarpanch, Gautam Singh, who called upon the officials of Wild Life department, which rescued the leopard from the trap and took him along with them to a safe place.
