| Panthers ,NC & Congress favour fresh elections to maul BJP &PDP | | | Three mainstream opposition parties,the National Conference,the Congress and the Panthers Party,have repeatedly voiced support for dissolving the Assembly,which has been placed under animated suspension after the imposition of Governor's rule in Jammu and Kashmir,to be followed by fresh elections.In fact the basic reason for these parties is to cash on the already eroded vote bank of the BJP and the PDP.Yes, it is a question of degree of erosion in the vote bank.While the BJP has suffered severe erosion in its vote bank the PDP too has not gained any political weight.The reasons being different.If the PDP has forged an alliance with the BJP it has not been accepted by majority of people in the Kashmir valley who,by temperament and designs,are opposed to the Saffron brigade.And this could be a cause for poor performance of the PDP in case fresh elections were held in Jammu and Kashmir.Majority of people of the region of Jammu who had voted for the BJP in 2014 allowing it to win,for the first time,25 seats do not feel happy with the performance of the BJP.What seems to have peeved people against BJP is the failure of the BJP to fulfill most of its pre-poll promises including grant of citizenship rights to the refugees from West Pakistan settled in Jammu,diluting the spirit of Article 370 and grant of union territory status for Ladakh province and etc etc.Though implementation of these issues was not an easy affair for the BJP but it could have done something to reduce the level of regional discrimination,unemployment. It had failed to pool resources for taking in hand various development projects.Above all people had to bear severe discomfort owing to prolonged load shedding during the summer months of 2015. People in the region of Jammu had to feel enraged because the BJP man,Dr Nirmal Singh,remained the Deputy Chief Minister and he was allotted the power portfolio.This indicates that a Deputy Chief Minister had remain a helpless minister before the domineering PDP leaders,especially the ministers.If in 2014 Assembly election and the Lok Sabha election the Congress and the National Conference suffered major reverses it was the outcome of peoples' anger over the poor performance of the National Conference-Congress coalition Government despite the fact that the coalition Government had got full six-year term and the Congress led UPA Government was in the centre. Had there been a Congress led UPA Government in the centre when Mufti Mohd Sayeed passed away and when Mehbooba Mufti delayed taking oath as Chief Minister the Assembly would have been dissolved and fresh poll schedule should have been fixed.But the BJP led NDA Government is aware of the fact that the future of the BJP in Jammu and Kashmir is not robust and in case early election was held the BJP could be mauled by the Panthers Party,the Congress and the NC.That is the reason that Panthers Party Chief,Harsh Dev Singh,whose party drew a blank during the 2014 election,is keen to face the electorate because he knows it well that the Panthers Party has a chance to rise from the ashes of the BJP.
This should be the reason for the centre to delay holding fresh elections.This should be the reason for Governor,N.N.Vohra to grant more time to the PDP and the BJP for forming the Government.Possibly Vohra knows it that people in the troubled state olf Jammu and Kashmir are not ready to face another poll within 10 to 11 months and that is why he is trying to give sufficient time to the BJP and the PDP to form the Government.
Now that BJP had demanded 10 days to decide about its participation in the Government formation hardly three days are left.Even if the Governor keeps his option open for enabling the PDP and the BJP to form the Government he could be held responsible for being biased in favour of the BJP and the PDP. Even the BJP led NDA Government will be blamed for being partial because further delay in the formation of the Government could promote political uncertainty despite the fact that N.N.Vohra has started tightening the strings of the administration.
The BJP know its plus and minus points otherwise it would have kicked the PDP in its shins. The PDP tgoo knows that it cannot repeat its poll performance of 2014 when it bagged 28 seats and hence it is trying to play safe so that in case it is able to secure the political package from the centre it could regain the ground that it had lolst during the last 11 months.Atleast Mehbooba can woo voters by telling them what her predecessors could not achieve she has been able to achieve in the shortest possible time.Even if she is not able to form the Government she can move among the voters telling them that she kicked the BJP in its shins because her demand for a political package was not conceded by the centre. |
