srinagar, Apr 22: What could be termed as "hijacking" of the Transport Department, many junior engineers on deputation there are refusing to attend their duties at their parental offices.
Sources said at least 10 junior engineers of the works department were on deputation to motor vehicles department as inspectors for two years.
However, even after passing of 10 years, some are refusing to attend duties at their parental department and relieve from the existing posts despite directives from the government.
According to the official sources employees of the works departments are refusing to leave from the existing posting as motor vehicles inspectors due to some vested interests.
Sources said that Tariq Ahmad Moughal is holding the post of motor vehicle inspector since 2005, IrfanUl Islam since 2009, Bilal Ahmad Sofi since 2012, Parvaiz Ahmad Khan since 2009, Parvaiz Sheikh since 2012, Zaiul Wani, Sunil cannie since 2009, Sajad Zubiar 2009, Avinesh Sharma, Param Veer Singh and Param Veer Bhatia.
"These officials were told to attend their parent department but refused to do so. Court told the department to submit their objections after they (employees) got the status quo. But the department didn't file any objections through its advocate as these officials are having some strong backing of politicians and bureaucrats," an official said.
"The current postings have turned a money minting machine for them. Even one official Avinesh Sharma has been promoted as Assistant Engineer but still not leaving the post of motor vehicle inspector," the official said. As per the service rules, an employee's can't be on the deputation more than three years. "Offices of ARTOs have become a hub of corruption because of these officials. Government is neither taking action against them for not adhering its orders," sources said.
The SSRB also recruited 15 motor vehicle inspectors in 2014 but despite that sources said these officials who are having close proximity with politicians and bureaucrats are not being relieved. "These people from other wings of the transport department are also acting as board members."
Sources said the authorities were not able to control rampant corruption at different levels due to these officials.
