Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Apr 22: Sun played hide and seek after early morning rain in the Kashmir valley, where weather woes will continue during the next 24 hours. World famous ski resort of Gulmarg, a major tourist attraction in north Kashmir and summer capital, Srinagar, recorded below normal minimum temperature in the Valley. A Met department spokesman said here this afternoon scattered rain could occur in the Kashmir valley while Jammu region fairly widespread rain is predicted during the next 24 hours. Isolated rain is predicted during the next 24 hours in Ladakh region, he said. He said after recording 8.2 mm rainfall, the minimum temperature witnessed a drop and settled at 1.2 degree, two notches below normal in Gulmarg. It was 4.4 degree there yesterday, when the maximum temperature was a notch above normal. Pahalgam, a famed health resort in south Kashmir, where annual Amarnath yatra is start from July 2, however, witnessed further surge in the minimum temperature despite 11.6 mm rainfall during the past 24 hours. Against yesterday's 4 degree minimum temperature it was 5.2 degree, two notches above normal. Kokernag, a tourist resort in south Kashmir recorded highest 14.8mm rainfall during the past 24 hour resulting in drop in the minimum temperature which was 6.1 degree, two notches below normal. Kupwara a north Kashmir town also recorded one degree below normal maximum and minimum temperature while at Qazigund the minimum temperature was 8.2 degree, a notch above normal. After recording about two degree below normal minimum temperature, people in the summer capital, Srinagar woke up to a rainy morning. Against yesterdays 9.3 degree it was 7.6 degree. However, as the day progressed sun appeared brightly before going again behind the dark clouds in the afternoon. Met spokesman said there could be light rain or thundershowers and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 17 degree an 9 degree respectively in the city during the next 24 hours. |
