Bhalla concerned over scarcity of drinking water, unscheduled power cuts | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 22: Expressing serious concern over scarcity of drinking water and unscheduled power cuts in Jammu region, former Minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla said that though the sweltering climate has smothered a bit with mercury sliding down a bit but the water and power supply still is irregular hitting the routine life people in Jammu region with every passing day. Forget about the far flung areas/outskirt of winter capital even the winter capital, the Jammu itself is facing acute shortage of water and power supply which is visible on ground where people get water once in couple of days as earlier, people used to get water twice daily. Similarly the power supply scenario too has gone bad to worse forcing people to pass odd hours every now and then. Describing Congress Party as an instrument of service to the people and having always worked for upliftment and well being of the people keeping aside their caste, colour, region or religion, Bhalla said that Congress Party has always defeated the autocratic behavior of those who believe in suppressing or oppressing and victimizing the masses or opponents while in power. Bhalla while reacting Uttarakhand high court order to struck down President's rule in the state, said that it underlined, once again, that Article 356 was a "matter of last resort" and that removing a democratically elected government "breeds cynicism in the heart of citizens". A state government's existence could no longer be upturned at the whim of the central government. The Uttarakhand high court judgment, though, establishes that constitutional procedure was abandoned in the dismissal of the state government and the imposition of President's rule. The Centre should heed this rebuke and respect institutional propriety, Bhalla said. Lambasting the approach of Coalition Government in the State, Bhalla said people after getting cheated with hollow slogans and fake promises now want to have public friendly governance in the State and Congress is the only party which can bring such change in the State. Singh added Former Minister accused Narendra Modi and the BJP of being habitual liars who make promises and don't fulfill them. They have no concern for democracy; the welfare of the people is of no value to them. Their policy is only to use people for dividing society. He referred to various promises that were made by BJP leaders during the assembly polls, and said none of the promises has been fulfilled so far. "What promise had they not made to the people during elections, making them believe they will turn this earth into a heaven," Bhalla said. |
