| Extortion mafia flourishing in garb of adda fee | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 24: High Court directions are being mauled and mandate given by the Municipal Committee being overstepped with impunity in charging adda fee from gullible truck owners at SaroreAdda, under the jurisdiction of BD Bari police station.
Sources divulge that the contract of the said adda has been won by people with criminal and shady background , who are arm twisting the owners and drivers of commercial vehicles to pay more than the fee permitted in the tender by the concerned municipal committee. "The contractor and his goons are extorting money from the truckers in the name of adda fee outside the jurisdiction of the municipal committee unlawfully and in complete violation of norms and a delegation of truckers had filed a complaint against the mafia with the district officers" disclosed an official of Municipal Committee. "A raid was conducted and the complaint was found to be correct after which the employees of the contractor were detained by Police" he added. Meanwhile, it has been learnt that despite HC directions not to charge adda fee from trucks carrying industrial raw material, there was complete violation of these directions by the employees of contractor and these truckers are arm twisted to pay.
Sources also divulged that the contractor who enjoys the patronage of a noted NC leader of the area has long criminal history and has been booked under serious sections of law repeatedly. |
