Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 28: With failure of State Government in bringing Kashmiri Hindu Shrines and Temples Bill there are heydays for various self-styled temple and shrine management committees in Valley who have amassed huge wealth over the years by disposing off the shrines and temples property especially after the spurt of militancy in Kashmir.
Hundreds kanals of land of various Hindu shrines in Valley has been either misused, grabbed or sold by these self styled trusts in connivance with land mafia and anti social elements during turmoil period and the Government has been looking like a mute spectator.
Though the Kashmiri Hindus have been forcefully demanding the passage of temples bill for over last two decades, the successive State governments have failed to take any action in this regard till date with the result the self styled trusts and land mafia are making merry.
Sources said that the promises made by the government and political parties from time to time with various KP organizations in general and Pt Prem Nath Bhat Memorial Trust representatives in particular from time to time were not kept.
The temples and shrines in Kashmir are in shambles and many of them have been razed to ground over these years and their land encroached by various mafia groups. Even some government agencies at various places have grabbed the Hindu shrines land for construction of government buildings and roads without seeking consent from the community.
Sources said the role of the self styled trust management committees and organizations has been totally dismal who in connivance of land mafia have either sold the hundreds of kanals of shrines land in Kashmir or given the property like buildings shops belonging to these shrines on lease for decades together and there is no account of the money received thus. Even the frauds have been committed in making rent deeds and maximum money goes down the drain.
Sources said besides the shrines the land of cremation grounds has also been grabbed over the years and at various places the bridges over the rivers including Jehlum have been constructed by grabbing the land of cremation grounds. The villages where the land of shrines has been grabbed or sold either by self styled trusts or mafia groups include Bijbehra, Sagam, Vanpooh in Anantnag district. In these three villages even the government agencies have grabbed the shrines land for construction of buildings etc. Besides, hundreds of kanals of land belonging to a Hindu Trust in Srinagar city of Kashmir Valley, Sopore, Baramulla and Kupwara and Budgam ahs also been grabbed by mafia groups in connivance with the self styled trusts.
