Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, May 15: The present coalition government of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state headed by Mehbooba Mufti seems to have 'surrendered' before the tainted and corrupt officers since no action whatsoever has been taken against them.
The PDP-BJP government is more than five weeks old, but it is yet to act against the officers involved in various corrupt practices. The corruption charges have already been proved, but still then the government has not taken any action against them so far.
In March last year when Late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was the chief minister, some of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and Kashmir Administrative Service (KAS) officers were attached with the General Administration Department (GAD) after it was proved that they are involved in corrupt practices.
Some months later July 1 to be precise, the state government made public a list of 63 officers and officials who were terminated from services following their involvement in corrupt practices. Most of these people belonged to the lower strata and at that time the government had said that yet another list of corrupt people would be made public soon.
However, nothing of that sort happened and in fact reverse took place. The IAS and KAS officers attached with GAD were detached and given plum postings for the reasons best known to the people at the helm. These people are enjoying the power like anything and it seems that PDP-BJP government is following the footprints laid down by previous National Conference-Congress coalition government in the state vis-à-vis rehabilitation of corrupt officers.
The state government is yet to act and remove the Principal of Government Dental College (GDC), Srinagar, Dr. Riyaz Farooq despite the fact that he is involved in multi-crore purchase scandal at GDC Srinagar and Jammu. Although, the State Vigilance Organization (SVO) had recommended removal of Dr. Riyaz, the government is yet to act in this regard.
Sources told Early Times that a senior bureaucrat currently heading the GAD is trying his best to shield the Principal of GDC Srinagar and it is due to this reason only that no action has been taken against Dr. Riyaz. Sanction for prosecution is awaited from GAD and the chances are bleak as long as the said bureaucrat is there in the department.
"It is important that the said bureaucrat is removed from his position and transferred to some other department. In case he sticks to the GAD until his retirement then it is for sure that Dr. Riyaz would remain untouched and no action would be taken against him. The chief minister needs to be proactive in this case so that punitive action is taken against the Principal GDC, Srinagar," said sources.
It would be in place to mention here that Dr. Riyaz has been accused of resorting to ill treatment of his female colleagues and he has at times abused lady medicos working in the dental college Srinagar. Despite being involved in financial and moral 'corruption' the Principal GDC, Srinagar continues to make merry with nobody daring to touch his skin.
