Malik's arrest unnerves Geelani, Mirwaiz
6/1/2016 12:57:55 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 31: After putting the so-called Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chief Yasin Malik behind the bars for instigating trouble and spearheading a campaign against setting up separate colonies for Kashmiri Pandits and Sainik colony in Kashmir, the state government is still facing an uphill task to tame Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Hurriyat dove Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who have upped the ante and are leaving no stone unturned to foment trouble in restive Kashmir Valley.
On Tuesday Hurriyat hawk Geelani issued a statement asking people to stage protests after Friday prayers and hoist black flags across Kashmir on the same day. He described the situation as explosive and a matter of "life and death" for the people of Kashmir.
On the other hand Hurriyat dove Mirwaiz Umar Farooq alleged that present regime has put the Jammu and Kashmir on sale and the need of the hour is to wake up and counter the plans of the present regime.
Sources told Early Times that Government arresting the so-called JKLF Chief and he being sent to Central Jail Srinagar has created ripples in the separatist camp. "Geelani and Mirwaiz camps want to take on the government head on. They are desperate to foment trouble. Both the camps are issuing statements to provoke people so that they hit the streets and their nefarious designs to trigger unrest amidst the peak tourist season in Kashmir take a practical shape," they added.
Sources revealed that people not paying any heed towards the strike call given by the separatists last week has unnerved them. "They have called for protests on Friday to ensure that protests lead to stone pelting and clashes so that situation takes an ugly turn and they call the shots," they added.
Sources said, "After Yasin Malik's arrest the job to foment trouble has been assigned to Mirwaiz group and the plan is to create trouble in old city areas, while a few second rung JKLF leaders have been asked to mobilize their henchmen to create trouble at Maisuma and Lal Chowk so that life in the city centre gets disturbed."
In a statement Geelani said, " Any carelessness on the part of Kashmiris at this crucial time will have serious consequences and they will become strangers in their own land. PDP ministers and MLAs are becoming the facilitators of the RSS and the Sangh Parivar and are earning a tag of traitors for themselves and for their families for the few days of power."
"Geelani giving a veiled threat to PDP leaders is an indication of the fact that he wants to intimidate the political leadership to get his way," said a source.
He said, "Security agencies have taken a strong note of Geelani and Mirwaiz joining hands at the behest of their handlers sitting across the Line of Control. Both of them along with other second rung leaders have been placed under house arrest and the people who can create trouble in the filed are under surveillance. Situation is being monitored keenly."
