HSS Dessa lacks basic amenities, administration unconcerned | | | Early Times Report DODA, June 26: Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Dessa in Doda district is facing an unprecedented shortage of teachers. GHSS Dessa is the only school for the vast population of 30000 in 14 panchayats of the area. Students of this school are facing problems owing to shortage of permanent teaching staff as the school has only four permanent lecturers while 10 posts vacant. Sources said that though GHSS Dessa do not have toilets, no water facility, no rooms, no ground but requirements are not well projected only because the seniors are not concerned. Students have to attend morning assembly on road which is shameful for District administration. Even as the union government is pushing hard for construction of toilets, especially for girls, in schools across the country, teachers from various government schools in Jammu and Kashmir listed lack of toilets and hygiene as one of the primary reasons for the high dropout rate in government run schools. Abdul Latief, a local, said that every year, the government revises its funds in its allotment for school education as it claims better infrastructure in every government school, however, on the ground it has failed. |
