Jammu, Aug 24: Touring hilly areas during summers is a routine matter but for cabinet ministers, these visits often turned into 'official visits' by giving it a touch through press-statement from information departments, when the ministers often announce 'ritualistic statements' over development of particular tourist destination.
Not to talk of the past just in recent past the major tourist destination of Jammu region i.e. Patnitop-Sanasar area was on the itinerary of two sitting ministers of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) who not only made routine visits to the area but these visits were presented in such a way that these ministers have special interest in development of the tourist destination.
In the month of May, a firebrand leader of BJP had made a visit of area with team of officials of various departments who attended the ritualistic meeting and long sermons were delivered by the Minister amid cheering from the crowd.
A lot was said and claimed for developing the area and to bring it on the tourist destination map to improve economy of the area, if the reports are to quoted.
Another minister made visit to the area just few days ago and the sequel of events again were repeated i.e. once again sermons were delivered, authenticity of which were still unknown as same were delivered or the faithful Information department officials had issued long press releases to the media houses.
Though interesting that these ministers have been showing so much importance for the development of this tourist destination but people of area were criticizing these ritualistic ministers, as their announcements made no change on the ground.
It is not the very first instance when goody-goody things were announced for the development of the Patnitop-Sanasar Tourist Circuit but the things on ground zero remained same as they were years ago as the much hyped cable car project is in doldrums.
Irked locals aguishly said, "For the last many years, we have been listening to the announcements of making Patnitop-Sanasar as a major tourist destination, a tourist circuit but there is no timeline fixed for completion of any project."
Rakesh Singh of Patnitop said that the successive governments had made announcements of starting cable car ropeway project but so far there is no headway in the direction and still is nowhere and none knows when will the project start and when it will be completed.
Apprehending economic losses, Sunil Kumar a businessman said, "After the formal opening of Chenani-Nashri tunnel, the tourist flow to the area will ultimately reduce and the picturesque locality if not developed as a special tourist circuit certainly will get sidelined resulting huge economic losses to hoteliers and others associated with the tourism industry. He said instead of making announcements, some concrete steps needs to be taken by government for making this locality enough developed to sustain stay of the visitors to the state, he added.
