Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 3: Confused over taking a specific stand on Kashmir before the All Party Delegation, which is visiting the State for two days from tomorrow, the top leaders of State Congress have rushed to New Delhi seeking directions.
According to reliable sources, the PCC president G A Mir and senior vice-president Sham Lal Sharma were in New Delhi today finalizing the party stand over prevailing unrest in Kashmir Valley, where 71 people have been killed so far and thousands of others got injured in clashes between protesters and security forces since the killing of Hizbul militant Burhan Wani on July 8.
Both the leaders met the party high command and discussed the Kashmir issue vis-à-vis Congress stand, to be taken before the visiting All Party Delegation, sources said and added that detailed discussions were held in this regard.
Pertinent to mention that Congress party has been adopting a contradictory stand on Kashmir issue. While the PCC president G A Mir and other Valley based leaders have been vociferously alleging excessive use of force on civilians, the Jammu based leaders have been openly supporting security forces and lauding their role in maintaining law and order in Kashmir Valley. Former PCC president Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz has even demanded restoration of pre-1953 status to Jammu and Kashmir, which has never been official stand of Congress party.
As the contradictory stand of Congress leaders before the All Party Delegation may project the party in poor light at national level, the high command intervened and summoned PCC president G A Mir and Sham Lal Sharma, sources disclosed.
Even as Congress leaders from Jammu division and Kashmir division are likely to meet separately with the visiting All Party Delegation, sources said that the party high command has suggested the State unit to be unanimous and press for Indira-Sheikh accord to find out permanent solution of Kashmir issue.
